Black cats, Friday 13th and Fear
10-02-2009
Black cats, Friday 13th and FearWhat these three have in common? Well, there's, of course, the obvious- demonic- connection. And marketing guys from Warner Bros. are going to use that for FEAR 2 advertising campaign- they will release 13 black cats (trained, of course) with FEAR 2 branded clothing on London streets, Friday 13th. Fear Alma again! And beware of her cats, of course :)

VideoGamer.com Review
10-02-2009
VideoGamer.com ReviewApparently VideoGamer.com loved FEAR 2: Project Origin- they gave the game 9/10 score and summarised their impressions more than favourably:
I can't recommend Monolith's sequel highly enough. It might not have the jaw-dropping visuals to rival Killzone 2, but it's a hugely satisfying shooter that'll have you clinging onto that controller or mouse throughout its tension-filled campaign. If you like your combat meaty and with a solid dose of supernatural scares, there's every chance this will rank as one of your favourite games of 2009.

IGN UK Review
09-02-2009
IGN UK ReviewWhile IGN UK managed to give a mere 8.5 score to F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, the review itself praises almost all aspects of the game- level design, AI, tactical gameplay, multiplayer and more. The most interesting point was:
Indeed, the armoured power suits are probably the highlight of F.E.A.R. 2's multiplayer, not just because they add another dimension to the game but also because the mode in which they feature, Armoured Front, is a hands-down winner.

Creating Almapocolypse Demo
05-02-2009
Creating Almapocolypse DemoDevelopment of a game takes enormous amount of efforts- that everyone knows. But who could think that creating a demo- appetizer of a game- would require a great deal of work too? Monolith posted a phenomenal blog on IGN- 'Creating a demo'. Just imagine- the developers even assembled a separate team for that- Demo Strike Team. This 3 part article- Planning the Demo, The World Art, Extreme Difficulty: Don't Use Slow-mo!- reveals that they created a separate level just for the demo. On top of that Monolith's team was doing usability test sessions & tweaking till it became max accessible. And what about the world art? Andrew Griffin says: '<..> each of those crumbling bricks was hand placed by us for your enjoyment.'

31-01-2009
PSW Magazine ReviewPSW Magazine, February issue, published an exclusive FEAR 2: Project Origin Review. More importantly, FEAR 2 was chosen as a cover game- Alma's face, all covered in blood, makes this issue look ultimately terrifying. They gave it 8/10 score and Silver Award (the same as for Killzone 2). Some quotes:

'Part shooter, part fruit-bat horror gore-fest; you'll never be able to go to work again after you see what really goes on behind the water cooler'

'Verdict: Bigger and better than the original and every bit as gruesome'

FEAR 2: Project Origin Interview & VideoIGN published an interview with Monolith developers. Ever wondered on which platform the game was developed first? (Heads-up: on Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC simultaneously). Were you afraid that FEAR 2 environments could be too repetitive? Why the city was called 'Auburn'? A lot of other answers you'll find in this IGN exclusive interview.
On top of that, there's a very, very interesting VIDEO interview. While it's dedicated to the variety of environments and the related difficulties, there's a lot of the most interesting in-game footage as well. Check it out!

That basic pleasure of time slowing, of watching a death ballet unfold as glass shatters, masonry crumbles and bodies cartwheel with morbid elegance- it's all intact, and it's as incredible to behold as ever.

FEAR 2 Demo Hands-on by IGN
22-01-2009
FEAR 2 Demo Hands-on by IGNIGN just published FEAR 2 Demo hands-on. Of course, you'll see Alma frequently, but the guys seem to be really excited about AI and claims that even Demo is no easy ride. You'll need to use all the tactical advantages you can get- such slow-motion powers and constantly using cover. But ATC guards aren't the only enemies you'll meet- there will be plenty of paranormal 'guys'. You even will get your hands on Elite Power Armor in FEAR 2 Demo and properly test on... other EPA!
The most surprising news is that FEAR 2 Demo comes with 3 difficulty settings and it seems that you'll need them- FEAR 2 Easy is being compared to the normal difficulty of the first game.

IGN AU Special: 5 Killer Reasons to Play FEAR 2
21-01-2009
IGN AU Special: 5 Killer Reasons to Play FEAR 2IGN Australia published an awesome article- 5 Killer Reasons to Play FEAR 2. It's a preview, but obviously they loved playing the game and reported what they liked there so much.
Variety: environments are much more diverse and there're more different types of enemies.
Artificial Intelligence: the first F.E.A.R. is famous for AI and no surprise that F.E.A.R. 2: Project origin takes it much further! Prepare yourself for a real challenge ;)
S-s-scary: the paranormal side of F.E.A.R. is much more pronounced, the 'reality' transformed into a true nightmare and the protagonist Michael Becket has a strong psychic link to... Alma. Poor guy...
Gore: there's so much of bloodshed that the game initially was banned in Australia.
Elite Powered Armour: it seems like it was the favourite 'toy' of the developers- they did a true hell machine. Can't wait to make a test drive >:D

Australia bans F.E.A.R. 2
27-11-2008
Australia bans F.E.A.R. 2Australian Classifications Board has refused classification to F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, sequel of F.E.A.R. As always, they found 'too much violence' in the game (let me to remind you, that the max rating in Australia is 15+). However, Warner Interactive (the publisher of F.E.A.R. 2) is working hard to solve this issue and it's researching all the options. Of course, they will appeal the verdict, but it seems that only a 'softer' version could some chances...

IGN reports F.E.A.R. 2 progress

There are some details about the plot- or at least where it starts, some intriguing gameplay hints and more. It seems that Monolith is focusing much more on the paranormal experience as well as on variety of environments than in the original F.E.A.R.
